Going Green With My Dishwasher

I admit I love my dishwasher. There are those who say that the newer ones are greener to use than washing dishes by hand, although I have a hard time believing that. Still, I indulge in the convenience provided by my Frigidaire.

I do, however, have a compromise. I don't use the "dry" feature - instead I air dry my dishes. As in, I have a dish rack by the sink (for the items that are not dry yet when I empty the dishwasher). My husband thinks we're the only house anywhere with a dishwasher AND a dish rack, lol. (One of these days I'll convert him and make him more green ;)

Oh no, you are not alone: we use the 'quickwash' without 'thermal dry' which saves about 30% of the electricity of the 'normal' wash. (And we run it overnight to minimise carbon emissions for the energy we use.)

The few things that haven't dried by themselves by the time we get up end up in our rack to chat amongst themselves for an hour or two: maybe we should set up a hotline (dryline?) to yours and form some new 'panpals'? %-P

Pah! My old dishwasher just died... The replacement (yet to arrive) always does a thermal dry except on 'quick wash', though the 'eco' programme seems efficient enough to do the whole cycle including thermal dry in about the same energy budget (0.8kWh) as the quick wash...

May have to get used to the extra convenience again!

Damon - our stove died too!! The nice thing is that the new one we bought has two ovens, which will save us gas (I'll be able to use the smaller one most of the time).

Enjoy your new dishwasher :)

Ah, yes, two ovens is a good idea from that point of view!

Well, you enjoy your cooking and I'll enjoy by efficient overnight dishwashing. OCD Anon here we come... B^>
