Green Cleaner: Electrolyzed Salt Water

It's green, and it sanitizes, degreases, kills athlete's foot, kills anthrax spores, kills salmonella, cleans toilets and sinks, increases the shelf life of produce, to name a few. It's ten times more effective than bleach at killing bacteria, and you can drink it.

I want this stuff!!

What is it? Electrolyzed salt water. Low voltage electricity can convert salt water to a very powerful, yet non-toxic cleaning agent. Sodium ions are converted to sodium hydroxide (a cleaner and degreaser), and chloride ions become hypochlorus acid (a disinfectant).

The catch is that the machine required to zap your salted tap water costs about $10,000, although apparently there are companies out there that sell "home use" ionizers for anywhere from $600 - $3,000.

Can't we just add salt to water and stir it really well? No?

Hopefully if this stuff works as well as it appears, the home ionizers will become more mainstream and affordable.

This info, btw, is from a Vancouver Sun article, the link to which is not working at the moment. Here's the pertinent details for anyone who's interested in Googling it to find out more:

Unfortunately I think it's very likely to be bogus.

Common salt (Sodium Chloride) already completely ionises when desolved in water, so I think it sounds like an attempt to blind with science.

Ah-ha! So you mean we CAN just add salt and mix it up without having to buy an ionizer? Heh heh ;)

This water is available everywhere, just look for a Kangen water dealer .. The machine makes the high acid as well as the high alk. for health.

I use it all the time works like a wonder. You should try soaking your vegs and fruit in the high ph water...lasts 2 weeks longer and the taste is amazingly better than the unsoaked fruit!!!!

Go Kangen GO!!

Yes, salt ionizes completely, but unaltered saltwater is not as effective as a cleaning agent. The electrolysis induces a chemical reaction, creating the sodium hydroxide (also known as caustic soda).

Another words "lye" (sodium hydroxide). Something that I can buy for 3 bucks for a container that will last for years if used for just a cleaner.

Also used as a Drain Cleaner and making real soap.

However quoting wikipedia "Both solid dry lye and lye solutions are corrosive and will degrade organic tissue." Meaning they melt skin and fat.
